ICC admit to fixing India Pakistan draw

Friday, June 03 2016 by SNTV
  • ICC chief executive David Richardson admitted on Wednesday (1st June) that draws for international tournaments are contrived so that India and Pakistan meet each other.

SOUNDBITE (English) David Richardson, ICC chief executive:
(Q: I've noticed India and Pakistan are drawn together again. They were drawn together in 2016, the 2015 World Cup, 2014 World T20, 2013 Champions Trophy, five tournaments in a row they've been drawn together in the group stage. Can you put your hand on your heart and say that's a coincidence?)
"What we try to do is make sure when you add up the rankings of the different groups that they all add up to the same number of points. You can do that in a number of ways, you can do that in a zigzag, you can do it like a snake. No doubt we want to put India versus Pakistan in our event. It's massive around the world and it's probably no coincidence that the two keep ending up in the same group."
