India players must 'swallow their egos' - Ashwin

Sunday, March 30 2014 by SNTV
  • Intro:

India's Ravichandran Ashwin said on Saturday that his team-mates must be selfless in order to be successful in the 2014 World Twenty20, beginning with their final Group 2 Super 10 match against winless Australia on Sunday.

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ravichandran Ashwin, India (On difference between opening the bowling and at the end):

"When you're starting off you tend to look to bowl as many good balls as possible in the areas where you want the ball to be. But the only disadvantage in that is a good ball can be hit for a four with less amount of risk because of the fielders not being on the fence. Whereas in the death [end overs] I think you've to be prepared to -- this is my take on it, I'm not saying this is how it has to be -- so my take is that you'll have to be really swallowing your ego and trying to make sure that you're not giving runs because there are people around who want to pick wickets at that time which is of primary importance. For me it's about trying to swallow your ego and try and make sure that you've done the situation pretty well."
