It was quarter-finals day at the men's field hockey Champions Trophy in Melbourne, Australia, on Thursday.

Jeroen Hertzberger gave the Netherlands a 1-0 lead in the 13th with a clear strike from a penalty corner in their tie against New Zealand.

The Dutch sealed their win when Billy Bakker gave them a 2-0 lead early in the second half, providing a fitting finish to Sander de Wun's strong run down the right side.

India reached the last four thanks to a 1-0 win over Belgium with Nithin Thimmaiah scoring the only goal in the13th minute.

In Saturday's semi-final, India will play four-time defending champions Australia, who beat England 2-0.

Shakeel Abbasi scored two goals to help Pakistan pull off a surprise 2-1 victory over Olympic champions Germany.

Germany took the lead in the ninth minute through veteran Moritz Fuerste, who is one of the only three players from the London Olympic winning squad in the new-look German side.

Abbasi scored the equaliser in the 39th minute when he capitalised on an opening following the penalty corner.

He was again on target in the 50th minute to put the team ahead.

Pakistan held on and will now face the Netherlands for a place in the final.
