    India finished top of the Pool A standings at the Champions Trophy on Tuesday, despite suffering a 3-2 defeat to Germany, while hosts Australia edged Pakistan 1-0 and finished second in Pool B behind the Netherlands.

    Sunday is normally better known as the day of rest but for hockey players in the Champions Trophy, it was Monday.

    So as soon as Tuesday came round, it was back to business in Melbourne - for the final round of group matches.

    Four-time defending champions Australia completed their campaign in Pool B with a game against Pakistan.

    The game was decided by a single Australian goal, which came from a 51st minute penalty corner.

    Kieran Govers swept in a powerful shot, which was enough to seal a 1-0 victory.

    In Pool A play concluded with Germany v India.

    India went ahead in the fifth minute - Gurwinder Chandi scoring after shrugging off defender Florian Woesch.

    But their lead lasted only eight minutes, with Oliver Korn finding the back of the net at the third time of asking.

    India restored their lead five minutes into the second half through Nithin Thimmaiah.

    The German's then made their comeback with two goals from Tobias Matania in the space of two minutes.

    Germany held on for a 3-2 win to finish level on points with India at the top of Pool A.

    India claimed first place with a superior goal difference.

    Germany play Pakistan in the quarter finals, the Netherlands take on New Zealand, India face Belgium and Australia play old rivals England.
