  • Intro:

At Wednesday's official launch of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in London, Alastair Cook spoke about Kevin Pietersen and the challenge of leading England's Test side for the first time in November's tour of India.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy held in England in 2013 will be the seventh and final edition of the one-day tournament.

Inaugurated in 1998 with the dual aim of spreading the game to emerging nations and raising money for the ICC between World Cups, the competition has only rarely captured the imagination.

SOUNDBITE (English) (On England captaincy and winter tour to India).

"Speaking to past captains passing on their experience, people like Nasser (Hussain) and Andrew Strauss, you know, it's a pretty tough job at times but one I can't wait to get stuck into now. Clearly the announcement happened almost two months ago, and we haven't played a Test match since. So I can't wait to get on the plane as the England Test captain. We've got a great squad, an exciting squad and, as you've just seen by our schedule, a lot of good cricket coming up over the next 18 months. So, you know, we're going to be tested a lot, in different conditions with different circumstances but I know we're certainly up to that as a side."

SOUNDBITE (English) : (On Kevin Pietersen's "reintegration" into England team following text message controversy).

"Obviously a lot's happened over the last two months but it's important we get this... as I said... the process right, so we can finally move on as an England side altogether."

    Q. Hatchets can be buried is what you're saying?

"Yeah look, of course hatchets can be buried but, as I said, it's important the process is done right and correctly."
