Intro:
Marlon Samuels produced a brilliant all-round performance to guide the West Indies to a shock 36-run victory over Sri Lanka in the World Twenty20 final in Colombo on Sunday - after his side had made an awful start, Samuels hit six sixes and three fours in his 78 off 56 balls to lift the West Indies to 137-6 before the Jamaican then bowled a tight four-over spell of one for 15, as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 101 in 18.4 overs.Script:
West Indies' batting firepower against Sri Lanka's all-round strength in the World Twenty20 final in Colombo on Sunday.
But the hosts strangled the life out of the 'Windies' innings.
Johnson Charles went in the first over - and then the most feared hitter in the world - Chris Gayle went out for three off 16 balls.
32 for 2 after ten overs, Darren Sammy's men seemed on course for a humiliation.
But one of those men had other ideas.
Marlon Samuels single-handedly turning the innings around.
He hammered three sixes off Lasith Malinga's first six balls to him.
This one 108 metres - the longest of the tournament.
The Windies eventually finished on a comparatively healthy 137 for 6, then it was Sri Lanka's turn.
Ravi Rampaul continued his excellent tournament, removing Tillakaratne Dilshan for a duck.
Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara appeared to put Sri Lanka on course.
But from 48 for 1 - the hosts tumbled to 69 for 7.
It was left to Sunil Narine to apply the final blow - the spinner finishing with figures of 3 for 9 off 3.4 overs.
And the Windies had recorded a stunning victory by 36 runs.
