Pakistan reach T20 Super Eights

  • Intro:

Pakistan easily chased down a daunting target to beat Bangladesh by eight wickets and surge into the Super Eights of the World Twenty20.

    Script:

After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim opted to bat against Pakistan on Tuesday.

Needing a 36-run win progress at Pakistan's expense, Bangladesh made a solid start reaching 34 without loss.

However Mohammad Ashraful was cleaned bowled on 24, before fellow opener Tamim Iqbal's unfortunate slip led to a simple run out.

But Shakib Al Hasan came in at three and steadied the ship, bringing up his 50 in true T20 style.

He fell for 84 in the final over, but helped Bangladesh set an impressive 175-6 off the 20 overs.

With the margin for error for Bangladesh so small, every run conceded was vital.

This edge to the boundary from Mohammad Hafeez off the first ball set the tone, and some careless fielding from Abul Hasan suggested it wasn't to be Bangladesh's day.

That dropped catch proved costly as Imran Nazir smashed 72 off 36 balls, but he was the first wicket to fall - caught sub off the bowling of Hasan with Pakistan's first wicket stand taking them to 124.

Despite losing Hafeez just two runs later, Pakistan coasted to victory by 8 wickets to set up a Super Eights group with Australia, India, and South Africa.
