Gayle confident ahead of Australia match

  • Intro:

The West Indies continue their preparations to face Australia in the World Twenty20 tournament on Saturday (22nd August).

    Script:

The West Indies will be hoping to get off to a winning start when they take on Australia in Group B of the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.

The Windies powered to the semi-finals in 2009, but fell at the Super Eights stage on home soil a year later.

However star batsman Chris Gayle is confident the revived squad today has enough firepower to progress even further:

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Chris Gayle
(on West Indies being counted as one of the favourites for the title)
"When you look at how we actually the base of our team and the strength of our team, batting wise we got the ability to right down the number eleven, bowling wise we got a lot of all-rounders, we got our spinners in Sunil and Bhaaji…so those guys once they put these things actually in play, it should be a good tournament for us. The key for us actually is to get to the second round and try and take it step by step".

The Aussies beat Ireland in the Group B opener; a win over the West Indies in Colombo on Saturday would put them through to the Super Eights, and leave Ireland and the West Indies to battle it out for the remaining place.
