  • Intro:

Golden State's Steve Kerr and Bob Myers gave their end-of-season media briefing on Thursday, 18 June, two days after the Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the NBA championship. The team is set to celebrate that victory with a parade and rally in Oakland on Friday.

SOUNDBITE (English): Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors Head Coach:

"You know the grind of two months wears on you and even when you win a game or win a series it's not long before the stomach ties up in knots and you start thinking about the next game or the next series. And this is a great reminder to me from my days as a player when I was part of championship teams that that day after you win, it's the greatest feeing ever - total relief and time to get away a little bit and relax."

SOUNDBITE (English): Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors Head Coach:

"The unexpected thing was that everything went exactly as we had hoped and that never happens, you know but we, we had our preseason meeting the day before training camp started we had a dinner in Alameda (California), team dinner. We showed a video we put together, this, Marv Albert narrated the video and it was kind of a combination of humour and inspiration and the theme was strength in numbers - you know, we're going to be a deep team and we're gonna, you know, we're gonna sacrifice. Guys are going to play some nights, they're not going to play other nights. Can we do that? That's what it takes to be a championship team ... That all sounds great when you put that together but for that to actually come true in the most profound way, with Andre Iguodala winning the MVP after being the first guy to sacrifice his job, with Festus Ezeli coming off the bench and playing minutes and David Lee sacrificing all year, playing huge minutes for us in the Finals, you know (Andrew) Bogut having a phenomenal season, not playing much in the Finals ... All this stuff that you kinda hope can actually unfold and happen and use as a strength instead of a, you know, dividing force - it actually happened."
