"Obviously everybody knows why we're here. I'm formally announcing my retirement from basketball. I thought that once this day came it would be basically a tragic day. I never imagined the day coming, but i knew it would come. I feel proud and happy to say that I'm happy with my decision and I feel great, I have a great mindset making the decision."

"When people all the time tell it's Doc (Doctor J, Julius Erving) and it's AI (Allen Iverson) when you talk about Philly (Philadelphia) basketball. And that's like one of the biggest compliments someone can give you. Doc and AI; you put my name in the same sentence with Doc. That's why this day is so special because of things like that. You ask me about moments that I've had being a Sixer (Philadelphia 76ers) , I mean when you think about things like that, that's what puts things into perspective. It's so many different moments. It's not one thing you can put your finger on. It's so many different things. These fans are me. I am Philadelphia. When you think of Philadelphia basketball you think of Allen Iverson and I fought for that. I earned that."

"I was felt like it was cool being me. I thought that was the style. I think that's the style, being me, being who I am. I had no problem with that. It rubbed people the wrong way because they didn't accept it the way I wanted them to, but I didn't care. I felt like I wasn't doing anything wrong by being who I am. I didn't like wearing suits. I still don't. I dress and look the way I want to look. You only live once and then it's over."
