Olympiacos win in a hostile Istanbul in week two of the Euroleague basketball

    There were five matches played on the first night of Week Two action in Euroleague Basketball on Thursday (October 24).

    In Group B, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan picked up their first victory of the campaign by beating visiting Zalgiris Kaunas 82-75 at the Mediolanum Forum.

    Milan improved to 1-1, while Zalgiris (Jal Giris drops to 0-2.

    The hosts opened the second quarter with a 14-2 run, pulling away to 39-21, and never relinquished the lead.

    Zalgiris cut it to 67-65 in the fourth quarter, but Milan found offensive team - through David Moss, Nicolo Melli and Curtis Jerrellsclosed out the game.

    Melli led the way with a career-high 20 points plus nine rebounds, David Moss netted 16 points, and Jerrells finished with 14 points plus six assists.

    Also in Group B, Real Madrid eased to a 2-0 record with a dominating 98-58 victory at home over Brose Baskets Bamberg.

    Madrid conceded just seven points in the first quarter and never let up, increasing the lead to as many as 45 points.

    Sergio Llull led four Madrid players in double figures with 16 points.

    In the only game in Group C, reigning Euroleague champions Olympiacos Piraeus overcame an extraordinary atmosphere to defeat Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul 78-67 in Turkey.

    Carlos Arroyo stepped up after the break and got some help from Jawai as Galatasaray went ahead, 57-56, late in the third quarter.

    But Olympiacos improved their defence right when it mattered and Georgios Printezis and an outstanding Lojeski fuelled a 14-2 run that sealed the outcome down the stretch.

    In a battle between undefeated teams in regular season Group D, Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar beat Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius 68-53 at home.

    Lokomotiv improved to 2-0 and grabbed a win in their first-ever Euroleague home game, while Rytas dropped to 1-1.

    Derrick Brown led the winners with 22 points. Richard Hendrix added 17 points plus 11 rebounds for Lokomotiv.

    In the other game in Group D, Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv won their Euroleague home opener for the 15th year in a row and tied a club record in beating Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade 96-82 at the Nokia Arena.

    The winners improved to 1-1, while keeping Zvezda without a win.
