    Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania produced the shock of the night in European basketball's Euroleauge on Thursday (17th October), with a dramatic 84-83 victory over six-time champions Panathinaikos Athens in Vilnius.

    The first round of matches in the 2013-14 Euroleague continued on Thursday, with seven games spread throughout the continent.

    In group A Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul beat Budivelnik Kiev 102-84.

    Also in Group A, CSKA Moscow survived an opening night challenge from French newcomers Nanterre to win 59-62 in Paris.

    The game which attracted most interest on Thursday took place in Group D, with Lietuvos Rytas of Lithuania entertaining six-time Euroleague champions Panathinaikos.

    The Lithuanians had to come through the qualifying rounds to get into the main draw and showed that they were well worth their place in taking a significant scalp in overtime.

    In a game where neither team held more than a 6-point advantage, the game went into an overtime period.
