Brazil's Oscar Schmidt was among the 12 being inducted into Basketball's Hall of Fame.

The prolific international scorer made his mark in the professional leagues of Italy, Spain and Brazil.

He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991.

He was then inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in August of 2010.

Schmidt played in five Summer Olympics for the Brazilian national basketball team and was the top scorer in the history of the Olympic Games with over 1000 points.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Oscar Schmidt

"This is the best three days of my life. Yesterday I got a ring. Today I got a nice jacket. And tomorrow I'll be with those legends, I can't believe that. But I'll save my speech for tomorrow. Thank you."

Arguably Brazil's greatest ever basketball player, Schmidt is currently battling brain cancer.

He will be officially inducted into Basketball's Hall of Fame on Sunday.
