Todd Purves and his Indonesia Warriors began defence of their ASEAN Basketball League title on Friday at home against the Malaysia Dragons in the opening game of their best-of-five semifinal.

Playing without star Marcus Hubbard who was out with illness, the Dragons tried hard to stay in contention, Gavin Edwards slamming home to cut a first quarter Warriors lead to 7-4.

But the Dragons had no answer for Stanley Pringle, the former Penn State standout who had the hot hand from three-point range gave Indonesia a 16-8 lead.

Just before the break, Pringle added another three-pointer when he drained from long range to give the hosts a 38-21 lead.

Indonesia added to their lead after the intermission, (9) Chris Daniels found (2) Mario Wuysang for the reverse lay-in as the Warriors took a 19 point lead.

The Warriors were the dominant force on the night, rolling out 72-63 winners.

Game two of their best-of-five semi is set for Sunday.
