Rock On Ruby beat odds-on favourite Hurricane Fly to win the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

The 11-1 shot, ridden by Noel Fehily, handed trainer Paul Nicholls his first victory in the showpiece race of Tuesday's opening day.

The 2012 Cheltenham Festival is underway at Cheltenham Racecourse - Tuesday's showpiece was the Champion Hurdle which featured last year's winner Hurricane Fly, ridden by Ruby Walsh.

With Hurricane Fly as a 6-4-On favourite, 20-1 chance Overturn took up the early running.

But heading around the final bend, Rock On Ruby took up the running.

And the 11-1 shot never looked back.

With Noel Fehily in the saddle, Rock On Ruby took victory from Overturn by three and three-quarter lengths.

The win gave champion trainer Paul Nicholls his first success of the Festival, which ends on Friday (16th March) when Kauto Star competes in the world-renowned Gold Cup.
