Olympic horses arrive in Rio

Sunday, July 31 2016 by SNTV
  • The first horses arrived at the Olympic Equestrian Centre in Rio de Janeiro on Friday (29th July).

Some precious four-legged cargo arrived in Brazil on Friday ahead of next week's Olympic Games.

The 34 horses - the first equine contingent to arrive in Rio - completed a 12-hour flight from London's Stansted Airport.

The batch included horses from Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, Canada and Zimbabwe.

A team of vets helped with their transfer to Rio's Deodoro Olympic Equestrian Centre.

The centre will house 233 horses from 43 countries.

The Olympic Equestrian competition gets underway next Saturday (6th August) with individual eventing and team dressage.
