Schmidt asks Irish to 'keep the faith'

  • Irealand's head coach, Joe Schmidt, spoke about his side going through a "transition" period following their 21-10 defeat against England at Twickenham on Saturday (February 27). Captain Rory Best spoke too about missed opportunities.

"For them to get back ahead of us after we went 10-6 up was disappointing. You lose a game because the ball slipped out of a players hand or there seems to be a dark patch on the TV when you're looking at a TMO decision and it doesn't fall your way. They are the fine margins because I think they were two teams that were relatively evenly matched in a number of ways."

"There's a little bit of a transition period and we're building on that obviously. The only thing I'd say is don't lose faith. We'll keep building and hopefully that will be sufficient to keep people enthusiastic in the next two games."

"In the second half we were presented with an opportunity early and took it. We had another couple of opportunities in the second half and we didn't take any of them which is disappointing. At this level you've got to take as many of those as you can and we just didn't take enough and take the right ones at the crucial times."
