They say good things come to those who wait and that's certainly the case for Ted Ligety.

He may have Olympic and World championship gold medals to his name in the combined event, but incredibly had never before won on the World Cup circuit.

Ligety had stern competition to overcome. 2013 winner Alexis Pinturault produced an impressive performance on the slalom to record a fastest time of 49.94 seconds - 1.22 seconds ahead of Ted Ligety at that stage.

Croatian skier Natko Zrncic-Dim was also in the hunt and was third fastest on the course 1.50 seconds behind Pinturault.

But Ligety produced a storming performance in the downhill to overcome the significant slalom deficit to take the lead with his overall time of two minutes and 44.74 seconds.

Ligety's 20th career World Cup win saw him extend his advantage over Pinturault in the race for third place in the overall standings.
