  • Intro:

Swiss side HC Davos beat Team Canada 3-1 on Saturday to reach the semi-finals of the Spengler Cup in Davos.

    Script:

HC Davos faced Team Canada, with both teams having beaten HC Vitkovice Steel in their opening match.

Hosts Davos eased to a 5-1 victory over Vitkovice Steel, with the Canadians securing the win in a tighter 5-4 clash.

After a goalless first period, Davos struck twice in the second. First through Marcus Paulsson, after a great turn and neat exchange with team mate Niklas Persson.

Peter Guggisberg then added a second to give Davos a strong foothold in the game.

After a disappointing showing in the opening two periods, the Canadians looked more up for the fight at the start of the third and were eventually rewarded with a goal courtesy of Darren Haydar.

Despite pressing for the equaliser, Team Canada were left to rue a powerplay when Andres Ambuhl's neat work added a third for Davos.

Maxim Noreau reduced the deficit for Team Canada, to set up a frantic finish, but there was to be no comeback for the Canadians and the score remained 3-2 to Davos.
