Swiss-based club Geneve Servette beat The Rochester Americans with ease in the opening game of the Spengler Cup - the oldest ice-hockey tournament, starting back in 1923.
Former Ottawa Senators forward Kaspars Daugavins opened the scoring with 8:19 remaining in the first period.
Garrett Stafford gave his team the a 2-0 advantage in the second period after drilling a slap shot past goalie Matt Hackett.
The third period saw the Swiss side add three more goals, Matthew Lombardi with some neat stick work for the third and Juraj Simek a minute later, to make it 4-0.
Cody Almond added a fifth in the closing minutes to compound the misery for the North Americans.
