Veteran Mario Matt of Austria made history by coming first in a World Cup slalom race at Val d'Isère in France on Sunday. This is his 14th career victory, which equals Benjamin Raich’s record number of World Cup slalom wins by an Austrian slalom skier.

The 34-year-old double former slalom world champion beat Sweden's Mattias Hargin -- who finished second -- by 0.53 seconds and third-placed Italian veteran Patrick Thaler by 0.78.

Matt, who was second last month in the slalom in Finland, has 15 World Cup wins - 14 in slalom and one in super combined.

Moving across the border to Switzerland, world champion Tessa Worley of France won the ladies FIS World Cup giant slalom in St. Moritz on Sunday with a time of 2.07.62.

The run was testing; too testing for Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.

    Sweden's Jessica Lindell-Vikarby was runner-up in 2.07.99.

The defending overall World Cup champion Tina Maze of Slovenia finished third in 2.08.41.
