Christmas came early for F1 fans in Frome in Somerset on Friday. Jenson Button was only supposed to switch the Christmas lights on in his home town but he delighted the crowd by going for a surprise spin through the town centre as well.

Button performed a few donuts and burn-outs on the closed streets, as part of a sponsor's promotion.

The 33 year-old endured a disappointing season with McLaren, after failing to win a single podium place for the first time in 33 years. His year did end on a more positive note though. He raced to fourth in Brazil last Sunday in what was McLaren's best result all season and he broke David Coulthard's record for most race appearances by a British Formula One driver.

Afterwards Button described the event on Twitter as 'special' and praised the large crowd who came to watch the 2009 World Championship winner.
