It was announced on Thursday that Ross Brawn has stepped down as principal of the Mercedes Formula One team.

In a statement, Mercedes said the leadership of the team will now fall to business chief Toto Wolff and technical director Paddy Lowe.

Brawn will officially stand down at the end of the calendar year, but with the season finishing last weekend, his time with the team has effectively ended.

Brawn bought the team from Honda and took the F1 drivers' and constructors' titles in 2009, before being taken over by Mercedes.

Earlier in his career Brawn had been an instrumental figure in Ferrari's success, during the Michael Schumacher era.
