Formula one team McLaren have confirmed that Danish novice Kevin Magnusson will be Jenson Button's team-mate for 2014.

The team have chosen to promote the 21 year old driver - winner of the Formula Renault 3.5 feeder series this year - to replace Sergio Perez who is leaving after just one season with the team.

Magnusson will be the first rookie driver to be taken on by McLaren since Lewis Hamilton joined their ranks back in 2007.

Perez replaced Hamilton at the team for this season, but it's thought that the team have been under-whelmed by his results this season and he has since been linked with a move to Force India.

2013 has been an uncompetitive season for McLaren and they are without a podium place for the first time since 1980.

Former World Champion Jenson Button remains with the team, but has taken only 60 points so far this season with a fifth place finish in China his best result.
