Intro:
Accused of assault by a girlfriend, Colorado Avalanche goalie Seymon Varlamov appears in court in Denver on Thursday (31st October) after spending a night in a Colorado jail.
Script:
SOUNDBITE (English) Jack Rotole, Varlamov's Attorney:
(asked why Varlamov had to spend the night in jail) "You know, I won't speak to that specifically with my client's case. But the domestic violence statute requires whoever happens to be charged, whether it be male, female, or whoever it may be, spend a period in which they're separated, and that typically is a 24-hour period of time. And a typical procedure followed by police in all domestic violence situations is to separate the parties by jailing one for 24-hours. And then issuing whatever appropriate orders the court deems appropriate. I'm not speaking to this case, I'm speaking in general to the domestic violence statute."
REPORTER QUESTION: Is that what happened in this case?
"I have no comment on this case. I've told you guys that many, many times. Nice try."
SOUNDBITE (English) Patrick Roy, Head Coach, Colorado Avalanche:
"You seem to have more details than I have right now, to be honest with you. I mean, we're going to take it one day at a time, like we've been doing all year long. Obviously, I mean, we're probably going to receive calls this afternoon, then we can make a decision on how we're going to deal with the situation."
SOUNDBITE (English) Patrick Roy, Head Coach, Colorado Avalanche:
"Well, what goes through my head is, obviously, I mean, the first time I'm going to meet you guys I'm going to make sure I make no comments on this story. Obviously, I mean it's a lot... thing, and and its important for me as a coach, I mean, I keep our focus on our team, and we keep our focus there, and at the same time we let the law decide what's going to be."
