James Hinchcliffe passed Takuma Sato on the inside of the last bend to win IndyCar's Sao Paulo 300 on Sunday.

    Script:

The IndyCar racing series was in Brazil on Sunday for the 75-lap Itaipava Sao Paulo 300.

Defending IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay led the field from pole but finished only in 11th after a flat tyre.

Will Power won all three previous races in Brazil but hasn't won in 14 races, since his victory in Sao Paulo last year.

The Australian, who started only 22nd after a mishap in qualifying, retired on lap 19 because of an apparent gear shift problem.

Takuma Sato took the lead on the 57th lap and held it all the way to the white flag.

He had successfully defended the lead from Canadian James Hinchcliffe on two occasions during the final laps but couldn't hang on at the end with older tyres.

He became the first Canadian to win in Brazil since Greg Moore at Rio on May 10th, 1998.
