After triumphing in a tense play-off game against Erika Brown of the United States earlier on Saturday Canada's Rachel Homan was back on the ice for the evening semi-final - her opponent this time Eve Muirhead of Scotland.

In a predictably close game, the Scots went hard early, Muirhead playing a nose-hit to take a 4-2 lead in the third end.

But a precision hit from Rachel Homan in the next end brought Canada level on 4 points apiece.

The teams then spent the next four ends trading a series of outstanding shots, with Homan taking her first lead - by 7 points to 6 - in the eighth end.

Muirhead was then forced to take just one point with a nose-hit to level the game once more at 7 points each - setting up a thrilling finale.

Homan had a double take out to score the one point needed for a Canadian win, but her line was too straight and jammed one of the Scottish stones, allowing Scotland to steal an 8-7 victory - and a place in Sunday's (24 March) gold medal match against Sweden's Margaretha Sigfridsson.

Scotland haven't won a World Women's Championship since Jackie Lockhart in 2002, while Sweden's Anette Norberg won the world title in 2011.

Homan will take on Erika Brown of the United States for the bronze.
