Spectacular rides in World Tour event

Saturday, March 23 2013 by SNTV
  • Intro:

France's Elodie Mouthon won the final women's snowboard event on the Freeride World Tour in Verbier on Friday (22 March), while wild card Matilda Rapaport of Sweden notched up victory in the ski competition. American rider Ralph Backstrom and France's Kevin Guri were respective winners in the men's snowboard and ski categories.

A head for heights was pretty important, as the six-event Freeride World Tour 2013 came to an end in Switzerland on Friday.

The riders were required to impress the judges with a combination of speed and control with freestyle trickery.

In a tight field of women snowboarders, Elodie Mouthon of France came out on top with a high score of 86.33 points.

I'm not sure who was most nervous, the helicopter cameraman or the skier, as Sweden's Matilda Rapaport was the surprise victor in the women's ski event.

A big dog, a nice cheque and a bizarre trophy joined her on the podium!

American rider Ralph Backstrom also completed the double, taking victory and the world champion crown with an almost flawless snowboard run.

On to the skiers, and a spectacular high speed run from Kevin Guri gave the Frenchman top spot - his first ever victory and first podium of the year.
