The very best in female surfing are at Rainbow Bay in Queensland for the Roxy Pro - part of the ASP Women's World Championship Tour.
Stephanie Gilmore was the last winner of this event - and the reigning five-time world champion from Australia advanced directly into the quarter finals.
Gilmore traded blows with Hawaii's Coco Ho for a round-three win, with Brazil's Silvana Lima conceding the heat with five minutes to go.
Gilmore has drawn another Hawaiian, Alana Blanchard, in the last eight.
South African ASP World Tour rookie Bianca Buitendag upset world number two Sally Fitzgibbons in the non-elimination third round.
Fitzgibbons dominated the heat until 19-year-old Buitendag found an excellent scoring ride in the final minutes.
The pair will meet again in the 'quarters' after the Australian bounced back to defeat America's Lakey Peterson.
