The final four-man bobsleigh race of the season took place in Sochi on Sunday. The race also doubled as a test for the 2014 Olympic track, with sliders keen to make the most of their opportunity to race on it ahead of next year's Winter Games.

Latvia 1, led by Oskars Melbardis, were in third place after the first run, but gave a storming performance on their second run down the track.

A powerful start saw them reach the first corner ahead of the provisional leaders, and they built on that to reach the finish line 0.14 seconds ahead of their closest rivals in a time of one minute, 59.29 seconds.

Germany 1, with Thomas Florschuetz at the helm, had been leading after the first run, but failed to match that level of performance on their second trip down the track.

They enjoyed a faster start than Latvia 1, but lost a little time over the middle section of the course and were unable to make it up, missing out on the top spot by a tiny 0.02 seconds.

Joint third at the end of the race were the two Russian teams.

Russia 1 skippered by Alexander Zubkov and Russia 2 lead by Alexander Kasjanov.

Despite the days results the overall season title went to Russia 1 and Alexander Zubkov, Latvia's Oskars Melbardis was second and Manuel Machata of Germany was third.
