  • Intro:

Action from the opening round of the Red Bull Storm Chase in Brandon Bay, the Republic of Ireland.

    Script:

While most people choose to sit out the cold of winter from the comfort of their homes, a few hardy souls on the West coast of Ireland have been braving the elements in the pursuit of adrenaline.

Not most people's cup of tea, but for these plucky windsurfers, it's nothing more than an excuse to push things to the limit.

Wearing special wetsuits designed to absorb major impacts and fitted with a GPS to locate the surfer if things should go wrong, the world's best windsurfers jumped straight into the churning waters in the hope of catching some killer waves.

Watched by the judging panel and a handful of windswept spectators, the storm chasing windsurfers were attempting to display superior wave selection and super high aerials.

Thomas Traversa, scooped first place of the opening round:and secures his place on the next mission to surf the globe's biggest and most ferocious storms.

The six windsurfers will now wait for the next big storm to hit until 22nd March, before moving onto their next destination.
