Golding 'frustrated' by conditions in the Vendee Globe

  • Intro:

Mike Golding and Jean le Cam were left almost stationary as Francois Gabart remained in the lead of the Vendee Globe on Saturday.

    Script:

The leaders were heading underneath the south of Australia as the around-the-world solo sailing race the Vendee Globe entered its 36th day.

Mike Golding and Jean le Cam have both come to a virtual standstill.

They were waiting for some wind - Golding called the experience 'frustrating'.

SOUNDBITE (English) Mike Golding, Gamesa: "It is frustrating but to be honest if we were going I think those boats - you know the new boats - do seem to have a bit of an edge in these conditions. And while they say that you don't need the fastest boat to win the Vendee, in the south here it certainly helps to pull a lead out."

Francois Gabart is in the lead, but not by much.

The 29-year-old is just 40 miles ahead of Armel le Cleac'h.

Others further down the field have been struggling with the conditions.

Bernard Stamm is around 800 miles away from the leading pack.

He is the strong winds of what remains of Cyclone Claudia.
The fleet are expected to suffer increasingly colder conditions as the race continues.
