There was a real contrast in the conditions for the 97-strong field from 19 countries at the European Kiteboarding Championships on Castelldefels beach in Barcelona.

The first two days provided near perfect weather for the freestyle and course racing competitions.

However, the winds then fell away on the third day, meaning the culmination of the event could not take place.

All that was left was for the winners to collect their prizes at the end of the five-stop season.

Mario Rodwald of Germany already had an unassailable lead in the men's rankings.

Austria's Stefan Speissberger was second in the overall rankings.

Dutch freestyler Annelous Lammerts was crowned women's European champion.

She beat Sabrina Lutz from Germany to take the top spot.
