  • Intro:

Oracle Team helmsman, Ben Ainslie, believes his team can overcome the damage caused by the capsizing of their AC72 catamaran and successfully defend the America's Cup.

    Script:

Team Oracle were sailing along with ease on Thursday and then disaster struck.

Oracle's AC72 yacht capsized during a training session for the America's Cup in San Francisco.

The entire crew had to jump into the water to avoid injury.

A rescue mission took several hours as the catamaran was swept downstream by strong currents.

The damage was pretty extensive but helmsman, Ben Ainslie, believes the team will learn from the experience.

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Ben Ainslie, Helmsman
"Certainly nobody has sailed one of these AC72s in that much wind before, so you are going into the unknown. Unfortunately, it was just too much for the boat in that condition and that set up. So it's a big learning curve but I think if any team is going to recover from something like this, then it's this team."

Team Oracle will bid to defend the America's Cup next year.

The winners of the Louis Vutton Challenger, which will be held in the waters around San Francisco from July, will face Team Oracle in the America's Cup in September.

Oracle have plenty of time to get back on the water before then.
