Yvan Muller still on top of WTCC

  • Intro:

Yvan Muller consolidated his position at the top of the FIA World Touring Cars Championship (WTCC) after two strong performances in Portimao, Portugal on Sunday.

    Script:

Gabriele Tarquini occupied pole position for round 13 of the WTCC in Portugal on Sunday, but the Italian wasn't able to hold that advantage for long.

Yvan Muller surging past Tarquini before the first turn.

In the background, there were problems for Aleksei Dudukalo.

His Seat Leon came into contact with Alain Menu's Chevrolet - and on trying to come back into the race, Dudukalo inadvertently took out Gabor Weber.

At the front, Muller was still in control, the reigning World Champion keeping Tarquini and Rob Huff at a safe distance.

Victory to Muller - his sixth of the season - with Tarquini second, Huff third and Norbert Michelisz fourth.

Race two - round 14 - and Menu took the lead.

Creating a big gap and leaving his competitors to their own private feuds.

Pepe Oriola and Tom Coronel battled throughout the whole race.

Taking turns in second place until Oriola managed to prevail, claiming his first WTCC podium.

There was another tough battle for fourth place.

After keeping the two Chevrolet drivers at bay for most of the race, Tarquini was the victim of a three-car clash and retired, while Huff and Muller finished fourth and fifth, with Alberto Cerqui an excellent sixth.

No problems for Menu at the front - it's Muller followed by Huff and then Menu at the top of the standings.
