  • Intro:

Mercedes F1 driver Nico Rosberg swapped his wheels at Hockenheimring - getting the chance to get drive both a DTM car and Juan Manuel Fangio's W196 streamliner that took him to victory in the 1955 season.

While there Rosberg said he was delighted with the progress his Mercedes F1 team had made, but there was still a long way to go to become the best.

Nico Rosberg enjoyed an action packed day out at the Hockenheimring on Sunday.

The Mercedes F1 driver was there to see the opening round of the new DTM season - and also got a taste of action on the track.

The German got behind the wheel of the car that Juan Manuel Fangio used to secure victory in the 1955 season - the last Mercedes car to win an F1 race before Rosberg's victory in the Chinese Grand Prix last month.

The 26-year old admitted that there is still improvements that need to be made to get the current 'Silver Arrow' truly competitive, but that great progress has been made already this season.

    SOUNDBITE: (English), Nico Rosberg:

"Well we are not the best yet, so we still need to improve in various areas. But I think we have progressed a lot recently. I think we saw in the first race we were very far off in the race and now even in the most difficult conditions in Bahrain we were there or thereabouts - able to finish fifth, beating for example McLaren and Ferrari. So we are looking much better and progressing in the right direction, being the fastest car in China all weekend. So we are moving forward very quickly."

Next up for Rosberg and his Mercedes team mates is the Spanish Grand Prix at Montmelo on 13th May.
