London's Olympic organisers have agreed to hold the Synchronised Swimming Olympic Games qualification tournament at Aquatics Centre at the Olympic Park from April 18th to 22nd.

The competition will act as a test event for the synchronised swimming pool and facilities, and FINA Executive Director Cornel Marculescu expects the tournament to be a big successor.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Cornel Marculescu, FINA Executive Director:

"You know every discipline is different in our case. We have diving which is completely different to swimming and swimming is different to synchronised swimming. This test event for us it's important to see how the music is working, how the sport presentation is working, how all the information the data and results is working. If this, if everything is ok because sometimes the music under water is maybe a challenge but today I don't hear any claims from the coaches or swimmers about that. And we have to test all of these conditions, so that we are ready in August when we'll start it."

The event, which made its debut at the 1984 Olympics, hasn't been a great source of joy for the Great Britain team, with Jenna Randall and partner Olivia Allison finishing 14th at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The team are aiming for a top six finish this time around and Randall says the facilities that have been provided to them are top notch, in particular the water.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jenna Randall, GB synchronised swimming team:

"It's very important. It might sound silly but every pool feels different. You get pools that feel very thick in the water and it's quite hard to move and then you get ones that are really light like this one here. It's fantastic. And the temperature is just right and the chlorine levels aren't too strong so it's great for our eyes as well."

Team GB say they hope a good London Olympics could lead to a place on the podium in Rio in 2016.
