Yvan Muller and Chevrolet have made a flying start to the 2012 World Touring Car Championship after the Frenchman won the first two rounds of the new season at Monza on Sunday.

Seat's Gabriele Tarquini had denied Muller a 14th consecutive pole position in qualifying but come the race the defending champion picked up from where he left off last year, blasting past Tarquini.

After Alain Menu had been nudged out of contention by his own team mate Robert Huff, the British driver set about getting past Tarquini, eventual squeezing past him on lap nine to make it a Chevrolet one-two.

Round two was to prove to be even more fruitful for Chevrolet, especially after a four car collision resulted in their main rival Tarquini parked up at the first corner on lap two.

New rules for the 2012 season meant the BMW of Norbert Michelisz started at the front of the grid following a reversal of the top ten from Q2.

The Hungarian driver was able to hang on to his position at the front of the pack until lap seven when Muller, Menu, Tom Coronel and Huff all passed him.

Muller eventually lead home Menu in second and Huff in third for a Chevrolet 1-2-3, giving Muller a maximum 50 points from the first weekend.
