Greg Minnaar made history by recording his 17th World Cup victory and equalled the record of Steve Peat at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Fort William on Sunday.

The South African world champion was racing in his 100th UCI World Cup event and five of his 17 World Cup wins have come at Fort William.

American Aaron Gwin looked unstoppable with a lead of four seconds but Minnaar managed to push him into second place.

His years of racing the Fort William track in Scotland proved crucial as Minnaar navigated a muddy and cut-up course following days of heavy rain to secure his win.

In the women's race, Britain's Rachel Atherton won by a convincing eight seconds over compatriot Tahnee Seagrave, but it could have been very different.

World champion Manon Carpenter looked on course to produce another excellent performance before suffering a fall on a jump.

The tumble meant that Atherton was able to take full advantage as she descended the course in perfect fashion to secure the victory.

It proved to be a great day for British mountain biking as four of the top five women's spots were taken by home riders.
