Rain causes chaos at IndyCar race

  • Intro:

Columbia's Carlos Munoz captured his first career IndyCar victory when Race 1 of the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit was called off because of rain and numerous crashes after 47 laps.

    Script:

Wet weather meant some really difficult conditions for Race 1 of the IndyCar Chevrolet Dual in Detroit. Will Power led from the green flag but the yellow ones were being waved just three laps in, when Venezuelan rookie Rodolfo Gonzalez lost control and hit the wall.

Another caution was called just moments after the race went green again. Stefano Coletti, a rookie from Monaco, bumped James Jakes and Jakes then sent Tony Kanaan around. Graham Rahal had nowhere else to go and ran right into Kanaan.

Just look at the visability the drivers were dealing with, this is on board with Rahal, you can only imagine what he was thinking at this point.

He would be joined in the stands by Charlie Kimball not long after as he smashed into the wall on the 13th lap.

Takuma Sato received a warning for this bump with Josef Newgarden.

The yellow flags were out again with 23 of the scheduled 70 laps remaining after lightening was spotted, as the cars were slowing Luca Filippi slammed into the tyre wall and that was enough for officials to call it off.

Carlos Munoz was leading at the time and so he is a winner for the first time in his career.
