Volvo Ocean Race: Dongfeng hold narrow lead

Tuesday, April 28 2015 by SNTV
  • Intro:

Dongfeng Race Team have a slender lead in the 5,010-nautical mile sixth leg in the Volvo Ocean Race between Itajai, Brazil and Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

    Script:

Their boat was crippled by a broken mast in the last leg but Dongfeng Race Team are well and truly back in the Volvo Ocean Race. They are leading the others on the way Brazil up to Newport in Rhode Island in the USA.

But there really is no room for the complacency with MAPFRE (Xabi Fernandez/ESP) hot on their heels just 4.6 nautical miles behind, and Team Brunel a further two miles back.

Team SCA will be hoping not to finish last for the first time since the opening leg, they are going pretty well in fourth.

Overall leaders Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing are second from the back so far in this leg, although they are only just over 15 miles off the pace. Team Alvimedica are by no means out of it either, they are 22.7 miles off the lead.

It sounds like a big distance but the finish line won't be reached until at least May the 6th, so there's an awful long way to go yet.
