Alonso's doctor stresses McLaren drive is 'fine'

    Spokesman for the hospitalised Formula One driver Fernando Alonso says he is 'fine' and they 'optimistic' about his condition on Monday (23 February) in Barcelona, Spain.

    "We will remain here the time we need to make sure that everything is fine. The impact was quite hard and we want to make sure that everything is fine. So I can't say if it's going to be one, two or three more days.

    "Now he is fine. The crash was very hard. We hadn't imagined but it was very hard. And he has to recover because is a serious impact. And Formula One is not a game. So we have to be sure that he is ready to drive the car at the right time. Because we want to be competitive until the last race of the season."

    "The most important tests at the moment are the tests that the doctors are doing to him at this moment. The rest of the tests are just tests. We have to be ready for the races, not for the tests."
