The family of Jules Bianchi have said that the 25 year-old Formula One driver remains in critical but stable condition at a medical facility in Japan following his crash on the weekend.

His parents were at his bedside and said in a statement that the driver "has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and is in a critical but stable condition."

Bianchi's agent Nicolas Todt spoke to the media outside the hospital on Tuesday night

SOUNDBITE (French) Nicolas Todt, Jules Bianchi's agent:

Question: 'What is his medical condition?'

Answer: "There will be a statement that will be made, without going into detail... The aim is to issue a press statement tonight and every time there is a development, however slight the change, something will be communicated. But no television appearance is scheduled."

Question: 'Will there be any technical information on the accident?''

Answer: "No, no... it will be about Jules' state of health, rather than any analysis of the accident."

The Bianchi family has already lost a relative a motorsport crash. In 1969, Jules Bianchi's great-uncle, Lucie died in an accident during testing at the Le Mans race track when his Alfa Romeo hit a post, a year after winning the prestigious endurance race.
