  • Intro:

There was double drama for Team Dongfeng in the dress rehearsal Leg 0 of the Volvo Ocean Race, as they suffered a dropped sail and a man overboard.

    Script:

Competitors in the round the world Volvo Ocean Race got their first taste of action in Leg 0 - which does not count toward race points- as they took part in a two day return trip from Alicante to Mallorca.

There was certainly plenty for the Dongfeng Race Team to reflect upon - as they were forced to rescue a fore sail after it slipped overboard on Friday.

Crew member Jin Hao Chen then fell overboard and was forced to hold on to a halyard line.

    Jiru Yang explained what happened:

SOUNDBITE: (English - overlaid with video), Jiru Yang:

"Normally before the jibing, before the tacking we need to start the sail - we need to pull the sails from the windward to leeward. But just during that period we had a small mistake - a sail just out of control because a big gust coming and the boat was overfilled so the sail just drop into the sea. We were leading a lot but then we spend some time to pick up the sail and not leading that much anymore."

    The team eventually finished sixth.

Five of the seven boats taking part in the race finished within 20 minutes of each other - with Denmark's Team Vestas Wind taking victory just before daybreak
