This iconic endurance race began in 1923 and the 91st edition of the classic was watched by Ferrari's Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso.

Hybrid LMP1 prototypes from Audi, Toyota and Porsche are expected to contest the overall win on the high-speed track.

With Le Mans being such a gruelling and unpredictable race selecting a favourite to take the chequered flag is always challenging.

Audi has struggled for pace so far this season, whilst Toyota has won both of the opening rounds of this year's World Endurance Championship.

Porsche is returning to the top flight after 16 years, with a big-budget programme intended to fast-track a first place finish.

The race also features the smaller, lighter LMP2 class for prototype sports racing cars and the GT category.
