  • Intro:

Tai Woffinden won the Swedish FIM Speedway Grand Prix at Malilla on Saturday (June 14) to go a point ahead of Greg Hancock at the top of the overall standings.

    Script:

Round five of the Speedway World Championship - and it was tight at the top.

Coming to a sunny Malilla track, Tai Woffinden and Greg Hancock were level on 46 points - Darcy Ward a point back.

Another four riders had 40 points or more.

Nicki Pederson was one of that quartet.

He incurred the wrath of Matej Zagar in heat 22, the second semi-final.

That collision ruled them both out, allowing Chris Holder and Jaroslaw Hampel to cruise into the final.

But that pair were left trailing by the top two from the first semi - Woffinden and Hancock.

The Briton powered to a comfortable victory with the American second and Holder third.

It all meant Woffinden now leads Hancock by a point - 63 to 62.

Probably of greater significance though, is the fact that a seven-point gap has opened up to Pedersen and Holder in third.

Next up - it is Copenhagen on 28 June.
