In the absence of Poland's Speedway GP standings leader Krzysztof Kasprzak due to injury, the rest of his rivals had the chance to overtake as they took part in the Finland Grand Prix in Tampere on Saturday.

Britain's Tai Woffinden was the dominant force of the night's first semi final, reaching his first final of the season in defence of his championship title.

Sweden's Fredrik Lindgren was second, eliminating Troy Batchelor of Australia and Sweden's Nicki Pedersen.

The second semi-final saw Greg Hancock of the United States roll back the years with an impressive victory.

Slovenia's Matej Zagar was left in his wake, but he reached the final at the expense of Germany's Martin Smolinski and another Australian, Chris Holder.

The stage seemed set for Woffinden to announce his return to form and send a message to Kasprzak and the rest that his title was not for the taking just yet.

However, after another good start, Woffinden lost control his bike on the final turn of the third lap.

Zagar pounced on the opportunity, surged past Woffinden and held of to with the Finland Grand Prix.

Woffinden had to settle for second place, with Lindgren and Hancock trailing in third and fourth.

It all meant that with Woffinden (16 points) and Zagar (15 points) absorbing a lot of the points, Kasprzak kept hold of first place in the standings.

The Pole, without being involved, still sits at the top with 35 points while Woffinden and Zagar sit on 28 and 27 respectively.

Round four of Speedway's Grand Prix season takes place in Prague, on May 31st.
