Marco Wittmann in his BMW M4 wins the DTM season-opener at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg on Sunday (4th May), recording the first DTM victory of his career.

The DTM season-opener at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Wurttemberg proved to be a thrilling race.

Marco Wittmann triumphed for BMW Team RMG - he won comfortably with a 12.8 second lead on the next driver.

"It's just a great feeling, I think the key was to overtake Adrien in lap three and then make a gap to him and at the end I was able to increase it even to the end of the stage and so really, really happy."

Second and third place were occupied by Mattias Ekstrom and Adrien Tambay, both in Audis.

Wittman got off to a flying start as he overtook pole driver Tambay on the second lap before going on to dominate the race.

Pascal Wehrlein was the fastest Mercedes driver, finishing in 11th place.

The second DTM round at Oschersleben will see performance weights being given according to new sporting regulations.
