Script:
The IndyCar season saw its second race of the year take place with the Grand Prix of Long Beach, California on Sunday.
The first half of the 40th Long Beach race proved to be a generally stately affair with few moments write home about.
There were no major accidents, although Sebastien Bourdais did slam into the tire barriers on two seperate occasions.
Throughout the first part of the race, Ryan Hunter-Reay managed to maintain his lead with apparent ease.
However, as the grand prix approached the half way point, the wheels came off as the race descended into mayhem.
Hunter-Reay sparked a multicar crash that knocked him and five other drivers out of the race.
A further crash ended Justin Wilson's day and provided Scott Dixon with the lead on the day.
Incredibly, Dixon ran out of fuel while leading with only two laps left of the 80-lap circuit.
Mike Conway therefore inherited first position and the British driver held on to win his second Long Beach Grand Prix.
Australian Will Power crossed the line in second, after winning the season opener in St Petersburg, Florida.
While rookie Carlos Munoz was third.
