IOC members visit Athlete's Village for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics

    Members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) visited the Athlete's Village for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics on Tuesday (4th February).

    Script:

    Thomas Bach toured the facilities in the the Athletes' Village on Tuesday with other members of the IOC and attended a ceremony for the Olympic Truce, a symbolic resolution urging warring parties to observe a truce during the games
    Bach paid tribute to the victims of the recent suicide bombings in Volgograd.
    SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Bach, IOC president:
    "You could already see how sport can break down walls this morning. And therefore it is very fitting that we have come to this Olympic Village on a mission of peace."
    That bombing killed 34 people and heightened security concerns for the Sochi Olympics and Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Kozak gave his look on the issue of terrorism.

    SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Kozak, Russian Deputy Prime Minister:
    "The most important and the most terrible challenge that demands unity of all the people and all the governments on the planet is terrorism. The Olympic Games in Sochi are the reason for us to unite once again in the fight with this evil that threatens all humanity."
    After the ceremony, Bach visited the village's fitness centre, and played a game of table tennis with IOC colleagues before posing for photographs with members of the IOC, including former president Jacques Rogge.
    The games open on Friday and run until February 23rd.
